Since his childhood he was interested in sports. He was born on 24 December 1997, in Khandra village, Panipat district, Haryana. His family is largely involved in agriculture. His first coach was Jaiveer Choudhary in the year 2010. As Jaiveer Choudhary was impressed by Neeraj’s ability to throw a javelin at 40m distance without training, he decided to train Neeraj.
Under choudhary’s coaching Neeraj won is first medal, a bronze in the district championships. Neeraj then persuaded his family to allow him to live in Panipat for practicing. On 7 August 2021 with a throw of 87.58 m in his second attempt Neeraj Chopra won the gold medal at 2020 Summer Olympics Tokyo. As of 2021, he is one of only two Indians (the other being Abhinav Bindra) to have won an individual Olympic gold medal. He is also the youngest-ever Indian Olympic gold medalist in an individual event and the only one to have won gold in his Olympic debut.

Neeraj Chopra Lifestory & Career
- Neeraj’s sports journey started from his childhood, following a incident where he was teased about his obesity by local children in his village. Because of his obese body his father decided to enroll him in a gymnasium at Madlauda (Haryana). He was 11 years old at that time.
- As his interest in sports grew overtime he later moved to Panipat for better training and opportunities. While playing at Shivaji stadium in Panipat, Neeraj saw a few javelin throwers which fascinated him a lot and made him pick javelin sports.
- His first coach was Jaiveer Choudhary in the year 2010. As Jaiveer Choudhary was impressed by Neeraj’s ability to throw a javelin at 40m distance without training, he decided to train Neeraj.
- Under Choudhary’s coaching Neeraj won is first medal, a bronze in the district championships.
- In 2016, finally his hard work paid off, when the news of a 19-year-old Indian Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra creating a world record flashed on social media and television. He threw the Javelin to a distance of 86.48m to win the World U-20 Championships, in Poland. This was a Junior World Record throw.
- In 2018 Commonwealth Games, he registered a season-best effort of 86.47m, becoming the first Indian to win the javelin throw at the Commonwealth Games.
- In August 2018, Neeraj made his debut at the Asian Games (Jakarta, Indonesia) representing India, and he was also the flag-bearer for the Indian contingent during the 2018 Asian Games Parade of Nations.
